Emotional word processing in bilinguals

Using single-trial modelling of event-related potentials (ERPs) and event-related spectral perturbations (ERSPs), the CNC team examined attention allocation to negative versus neutral words in highly proficient late bilinguals performing a semantic categorisation task in L1 and L2. A paper published in Bilingualism: Language and Cognition shows that emotional processing in L2 is qualitatively distinct, more effortful and regulated rather than simply being less efficient.
